Unable to login, cannot verify phone number

Investor summaryNeutral

User complains about being locked out of Alibaba's website and unable to verify Australian phone numbers for account recovery.

Post body

I've signed up to Alibaba with 3 different emails, it allows me to sign up, login and then when I add something to cart it says We've temporarily locked your account to keep it secure. Verify your identity to regain access.

I've tried 3 different Australian mobile numbers and they all come back with We couldn't verify your phone number for security reasons. Please enter a different number.

I can't contact support as it just sends me through this loop again... I've tried on my home wifi and mobile network. How can I fix this?

that’s super frustrating, alibaba’s phone verification can be weirdly strict, especially with australian numbers. sometimes it helps to remove the country code (+61) and just enter the number as 04xxxxxxx, or vice versa if you already tried without it. clearing cookies or using a different browser sometimes gets past the lock, but if you’re stuck in the loop, their live chat (if you can get it to load) is usually more responsive than email. if all else fails, sometimes waiting 24 hours before trying again resets the flag on their side.

Seems like a lot of people get stuck in that same verification loop when Alibaba flags login activity. I’ve seen it more like a system security check than anything personal, especially when phone numbers keep failing. Hopefully they sort out a clearer recovery path soon because it gets frustrating very fast.

Yes, if you make an account after being banned any subsequent account made will just be blocked and from their side it looks more suspicious.

They are either tracking you by IP address, device type, browser fingerprint etc.

It seems for the initial block it is determined by AI as many people have been unable to make accounts afterwards. Your only option might be to use another platform or a sourcing agency. Would however suggest you try to reach Alibaba support via other channels (such as social media).

STOP trying to create more accounts unless the device is in a different location to you completely.

I've never been banned? Literally created the first account and then it was insta locked and can't verify?

Do not use your computer or your home Wi-Fi for this. Grab your mobile phone, turn off Wi-Fi entirely, and use your raw 4G/5G mobile cellular data. This gives you a fresh, highly trusted residential IP address that hasn't been logged by the multi-account block. Open a totally fresh Incognito/Private browsing tab on your mobile browser so there are absolutely no tracking cookies or device fingerprints matching your previous attempts. Alibaba's verification gateway checks the carrier data of mobile numbers. If your Australian mobile numbers are virtual numbers, VoIP lines, or from certain budget digital-only carriers, the system automatically rejects them to prevent spam farm sign-ups. It requires a standard, contract-bound mobile line (like Telstra, Optus, or Vodafone).

Locked/banned is the same.
