Wholesale Furniture
User asks for consumer experiences and tips on buying large furniture directly from Alibaba.com to avoid retail markups.
Has anyone here actually ordered large furniture pieces from Alibaba successfully?
I keep seeing pieces that look VERY similar to high-end retail furniture for literally 1/4 of the price, especially rustic/Belgian/European farmhouse style cabinets and credenzas. For example, this style of cabinet/sideboard (photo attached) is listed by some Alibaba suppliers for dramatically less than what I’m seeing from USA retailers/design stores.
My questions:
• Is the quality ever actually decent?
• Are these usually solid wood or veneers?
• What’s the catch besides shipping/import fees and long turnaround time?
• Has anyone successfully ordered a large furniture piece and been happy with it?
• Any tips for vetting suppliers?
• Did the final landed cost still end up being worth it?
I’m not expecting heirloom quality for the price — I’m just curious whether people are overpaying huge markups domestically for essentially the same factories/manufacturers. Would love honest experiences (good or bad)!!

Experiences vary by supplier. Some furniture is solid wood, others use veneer over engineered boards. Shipping damage, customs delays, and returns are common concerns. Vetting samples and verified Alibaba suppliers helps.
Many factories/suppliers just copy photos from the internet, it does not necessarily mean they have even manufactured a sample before.
So at the minimum ask for some real photos.
Remember, Alibaba is meant for B2B purchases, not personal B2C purchases. Once you calculate all the final costs and the risk, it is generally better to buy locally, the chance of something like this not being packed correctly and getting damaged is high (unless you pay a lot extra for a crate).
Hi, I’m exporting furnitures from China, Indonesia, Vietnam, Turkey for past 12 years. All my manufacturers are so reliable and the prices are very reasonable if the quantity is high and I'm importing these furnitures mainly to UAE, US, Maldives, Seychelles., etc. If you need any support for custom-made furnitures, please DM me.
