Getting phone call from one of the suppliers?

Investor summaryNeutral

User is surprised by a phone call from an Alibaba supplier asking about placing an order and asks if this is common.

Post body

I just got a phone call from one of the suppliers that gave me samples on the app. Really strange, they have my info but I didnt expect them to try to call me. I didnt pick up but they left a clear voicemail asking if I was ready to make an order with them. Is this common?

Chinese suppliers can be aggressive with sales follow-ups because the second you give them your contact info or order a sample, they see you as a serious buyer worth chasing. To them, a phone call isn't an invasion of privacy, it's just standard, proactive customer service to see if the samples arrived safely and if they can close the deal before a competitor does.

That is actually really professional of them, and it is good that they are doing so. Most people communicate via email only and have no real relationship with the supplier. Phone calls can not only solve many issues faster, but also help build a relationship. They also help ensure the supplier understands your requirements and give you a sense of their English ability.

If you are freaked out by it tell them that, but it is pretty normal in the business world.

It just seems a little too pushy, especially because I told them I'd get back to them. This same supplier has reached out through text and WhatsApp off the alibaba platform without asking me first. But ill take your word for it here

Sure, you can express that to them though, most sales people have monthly targets and KPIs, because there was a holiday earlier in the month it means more pressure as there is less days.
