Chinese tech year to date. Baba is the second or third best 🤷‍♂️

Investor summaryNeutral

Author lists YTD performance of Chinese tech stocks, noting BABA is among the best in a mostly down sector.

Bull points
  • BABA has outperformed most major Chinese tech peers YTD, showing relative resilience.
  • BABA's YTD decline is in line with Baidu and significantly better than the broader KWEB ETF.
Bear points
  • BABA is still down 10% YTD, reflecting the overall weakness and bearish trend of the Chinese tech sector.
  • The 'outperformance' is merely a result of 'picking the best among the worst' rather than absolute positive returns.

I wonder how much Huawei and Bytedance would be up/down this year if they were traded publicly.

I’m so glad no longer fully invested in Chinese stonks 🤣

Right. It is interesting though how underweight 95% of hedge funds are to China (and international in general) and how overweight everyone is to US equities.

You gotta figure something’s gotta give in this more fragmented world unless maybe if the US creates AGI and hoards it for themselves.

Same, there are much better opportunities in other developed markets

Xiaomi, BABA and Tencent are my picks!.

As this year is going to shit as well these are my entry points for these companies:

BABA < 100 HK$

Tencent < 400 HK$

Xiaomi < 25 HK$.

At these prices these companies will be a steal. The only real risk for chinese equity is a Taiwan invasion. The rest of them I can put them in a drawer called "market fluctuations and geopolitical volatility". But in the long they will not matter.
