Alibaba.com and any fees

Investor summaryNeutral

User asks about customs fees and taxes for a small personal order on Alibaba.com to Italy.

Post body

Hi everyone, I'd like to place an order on Alibaba.com for individual items and would like to know if customs fees or any taxes apply. I live in Italy, and my order is $40-$50, including a camping knife, and I'd like to know if this could cause any problems. Thank you.

Camping knife is a prohibited object and could be seized in either China or the EU.

depend on the shipping ways, and actually knives are not easy to ship…

On Alibaba marketplace, the platform itself usually doesn't charge buyers fees. However, suppliers may add costs into pricing or shipping. I've always double-checked invoices and shipping breakdowns before confirming anything, because small charges can appear depending on the seller terms.

Don’t use alibaba for small. Look at AliExpress and they will include shipping in pricing. Always pay on platform with a credit card.

Check incoterms with vendor. For DDP, no further fees will apply. For DAP, you will have to pay tax and import.
