Avoid bad exchange rate?

Investor summaryNeutral

User seeks advice on paying in USD on Alibaba.com to avoid unfavorable EUR conversion rates.

Post body

A supplier quoted in USD, but I cannot figure out how to pay in USD. Alibaba immediately converts to EUR no matter the payment method I choose, except for PayPal but then PayPal gives a bad exchange rate.

Does anyone know how to pay in USD?

I run a corporate payments service for small businesses using regulated liquidity providers so money is safeguarded when being sent to beneficiaries. The exchange rates are much better than banks, wise, revolut etc. i’d be happy to discuss more and explain process etc

Many buyers on Alibaba often overlook exchange rate fluctuations, which can significantly affect final costs. It’s important to compare payment options, check conversion fees, and confirm pricing before ordering. Being cautious helps avoid unexpected losses and improves sourcing decisions when dealing with international suppliers on Alibaba platforms carefully overall strategy.

Only possibility is using a 3rd-party payment platform that has a lower FX-spread, but then you have risk as there will be no payment protection.

In theory you could open a business account with Revolut or Wise.

I wanted to avoid that route.

Isn't there a setting that I can pay with USD with my creditcard?

If I do it through paypal, they also convert to EUR before charging me.

Alibaba usually lets you choose the salary when you go through the payment link? By default it is USD (although the seller actually gets CNY).

I cannot find the option. It immediately converts USD to EUR.
