As a salesperson, product quality issues make me uneasy.

Investor summaryBearish

An Alibaba salesperson warns importers to avoid the platform due to price wars and severe quality issues from suppliers cutting corners.

Bear points
  • Rampant price wars force suppliers to cut corners, leading to poor product quality and high after-sales issues.
  • The platform environment favors low-quality, low-price goods, driving away honest sellers and frustrating buyers.
  • The author explicitly advises importers to avoid Alibaba altogether due to systemic quality and trust issues.
Post body

I am currently responsible for all international trade matters for a tractor factory.

This is a good field--Every country has farmers and all farmers want a tractor.

They now generally use European and American brands—or secondhand ones—so there is a market for our products. However, the problem is that our sales efforts have become difficult because our competitors are constantly lowering the specifications of their tractors to compete in the market.

This cost-cutting method is very subtle; for example, changing the brand of the engine, tires, chassis, and transmission—I'm referring to the kind of small workshops that can do it with just a dozen or so people. Most foreign customers have no idea about all this; they only see the same pictures and prices. If I wanted to sell to customers with a reasonable configuration, our price wouldn't be competitive. And if I explained all this—that goes against human nature, and customers wouldn't have the patience. So, to get the job done, I have no choice but to sell with the same low-configuration setup.

The problem is that the products I sell keep generating after-sales issues; the tractors are of very poor quality, and I'm extremely frustrated by it. Therefore, if you are an importer, I would even suggest you avoid Alibaba altogether, or simply choose a reliable supplier instead of comparing too many options.

I'm also thinking about getting rid of this mess, and I wonder if there are any cooperation plans here?
