Query Regarding Orders From China to India through Alibaba
A user asks about customs duties for ordering a pickleball paddle from China to India via Alibaba.
Hello everyone.
It is actually my first time ordering from Alibaba and i wanted to order a pickleball paddle worth 2800inr and having a shipping of around 1600inr making it a total of around 4.5k inr.
I wanted to ask if i will have to pay customs on this or not.
I've ordered something from Hong Kong before and ended up paying hefty customs on it.
If anyone here has ordered paddles from genuine sellers on Alibaba from India, please share your experience.
Oftentimes, with Alibaba orders to India, customs depends on declared value and the courier method. Some parcels slip through, others get charged on arrival. For a 2800 INR paddle plus shipping, expect possible duties like your Hong Kong order experience showed before.
I myself am planning to order a paddle. There are 2 things in terms of shipping:-
1) Order via Alibaba logistics and pay customs around 10-20% of total value (price+shipping) , some manufacturers can reduce invoice price down to 15-20 usd , its not recommended to lower below that.
2) Shipping it to a freight forwarder in china. Shipping from manufacturer to agent can take upto 1-5 usd. From there apply for ddp shipping, can be between 24-40 dollars based upon volumetric weight.
Since I'm planning to order for personal use , i am leaning towards Option 1..
Unless it's ddp you will have to go through the custom charges. If you want ddp service where you will be provided all in Delhi rate beforehand, dm me.
Customs come between 10-15% , while ddp charges go upto 3k based upon the volumetric weight , plus shipping fee to freight forwarder
I’ve exported to India there are more hoops to jump through, you may also require a fixer on your end.
Cheaper to just get it on your end if it’s retail Ali makes sense B2B not B2C
for a single paddle order around 4500 inr, customs will likely apply since India tends to tax sports equipment imports even for small parcels. expect a duty of about 20-30% on declared value plus shipping, and make sure the HS code matches the product to avoid holds. sellers sometimes mark "gift" or undervalue, but that's risky and can lead to delays or fines.
Ive heard the customs fee comes between 10-15% , rather than 20-30%
ah that sucks, i only need one item and it will end up costing like 7k which totally doesn't make it worth.
Unless it is DDP you will likely pay customs fees.
That too it varies based on volumetric weight
