Unloading fee!?!

Investor summaryNeutral

User asks if freight forwarders charging unloading fees for large Alibaba cargo is a scam.

Post body

Hi is anybody familiar with the freight forwader asking for unloading fees since the cargo its too big? Sounds like a scam because a delivery should be able to drop it off

Not a scam, just LTL reality. Oversized freight often needs liftgate or inside delivery, and those accessorials aren't included in base quotes.I used transport S&H to negotiate those fees into the contract rate upfront

So next time i order something you raccomend me to include everything in the shipping when speaking to the freight forwader

It's very normal,it's not the first time I met this question,I can tell you,it's special for oversized products.

Yes, unloading fees can be real - unless it is something below 25KG it is likely not a scam.

Freight forwarder should have asked this prior.

This is why you need to think about delivery before you even place the order. Freight delivery does not automatically mean the driver will unload oversized, heavy, palletised, or awkward cargo for free.

A good example is someone ordering a 20ft container to their home address and assuming someone will devan it, carry everything inside, and stack it neatly at no extra cost. That is not how it works unless agreed prior and priced accordingly.

Depending on the cargo, address type, truck access, forklift availability, tail lift requirements, labour needed, and whether it is LCL, FCL, courier, or truck delivery, unloading can absolutely be a separate charge.

Friends, the unloading fee is not a scam, it is a real thing, because from the container to the wharf, it is carried by manpower, and it also costs to hire these workers

Yes but they want me to pay to unload the machine at delivery or I would have to rent a forklift lift to recive it

Yes, sometimes the freight forwarder will add these to the cost
