Why don’t suppliers care about having the same name?

Investor summaryNeutral

User complains about search engine naming conflicts making it hard to find a specific PCB supplier.

Post body

I’m trying to look up a supplier, but most search results for that name are about a headphone brand. They are both in ShenZen, so at first I thought they might be connected. Maybe one was the factory and the other was the product brand. But from what I can find, they seem to be different companies. Now I keep running into headphone reviews and audio product pages, and I can barely find useful information about the PCB manufacturer. That’s so painful.

This is actually quite common in China.

Many manufacturers focus on production rather than marketing, so their online presence can be surprisingly limited compared to the brands they produce for.

Another thing I notice is that many buyers immediately try to find a factory. In reality, that isn't always the best starting point.

Before trying to build a direct factory relationship, it's worth asking yourself how much volume you can realistically bring. Many factories are interested in stable, long-term customers and may not be the best fit for smaller orders.

For small and medium-sized buyers, working with a reliable first-tier supplier, trading company, or sourcing partner can sometimes be more efficient than trying to deal directly with factories from day one.

As your volume grows, you can gradually move closer to the factory side of the supply chain.

The Chinese registered name is often completely different from the English trade name — that's why the search is painful. Ask the supplier directly for their USCC (18-digit business registration number) or their official Chinese company name as it appears on their business license. That's the only reliable way to pull their registry record.

If they won't provide it or dodge the question, that's a flag on its own. DM me the details they've sent you and I can try to trace the registered entity.

He said he is not looking for the supplier but the PCB manufacturer.

Same process applies, PCB manufacturers in China are registered entities with a USCC number. The English trade name and the registered Chinese name are often different, which is exactly why the search is painful. The USCC is the cleanest way to pull the right record regardless of what they call themselves in English.

Yes not arguing with you, we have said that on this sub-reddit multiple times before anyone else did.

The English company name is what you simply choose when opening the bank account, it does not have to be exact translation or even match the pinyin. The unified social security code is the only way to clarify any doubt, as then business records and address can been verified.

Point is he/she does not have the USCC only a vague English Name, hence we said they should provide a part number as then that can be searched for within China and will probably link to the PCB manufacturer.

What do you mean the same name? The english name of a Chinese company is not necessarily the same as the registered name.

Also, many open mold products which are not protected use almost the same components and can come from multiple "factories".

I was trying to find real info and third-party reviews about a PCB manufacturer called Venture Electronics, but there’s also a pretty well-known head-fi company with the same name. They’re both in Shenzhen too, so I almost thought they were the same company. I still don’t even know what the PCB company’s Chinese name is.

Depending on the type of product doubt you will find "PCB reviews" it is better to find finished product using the PCB and look for reviews and potential problems. Most of the PCB companies in Shenzhen supply to local companies and can change versions relatively quickly depending on the components, if you have a part number or something may be able to find out more including the Chinese name.

if you want to know the manufacturer of a PCB then look for the UL number on the PCB.
