Are you here because you love the company NIO or are you just trying to make money off of it?

Investor summaryBearish

Author sarcastically suggests shorting NIO instead of holding long-term, citing management's frequent dilution as a reason to profit.

Bear points
  • Management frequently dilutes shareholders by issuing new shares when the stock reaches certain price levels.
  • Long-term holding has been highly unrewarding, prompting suggestions to short the stock instead.

Post body

Just curious after reading the thread about the guy finally selling after 8 years. If you love the company and cars I can understand.

If you are trying to make money, wouldn't it be smarter to join the shorts when the stock hits $6.50-7 range and cover at $5 to make all your money back? Imagine you go short and Professor Li and his cohorts dilute at the right moment; you make a gazillion dollars and all your lost money back just like that.

We must harness our zealous energy in the right direction to see an ideal Rise in our 401k and IRA accounts.

Bro I’m here cause I bought in years ago and never left the subreddit. 99.9% of posts are dumb shit like this

u/No_Mongoose_6624 3· 7d ago

Haha. So true. I’ve been here since the bankruptcy rumors in 2019-2020. Starting buying at $3 a share all the way up to $50. I’m here to get my money back.

Both, I believe that battery swap is a great complementary solution to gas stations and maybe the only sustainable way of ev world.

Yeah bro, start shorting when the company becomes profitable. Genius.

I hardly ever post in here, and I can't even buy the cars in the market where I live. But I have money in this stock because I believe the concept of battery swapping/modularization is good enough to overcome the ridiculous FUD campaign that's being thrown at it even by EV fans. I'm not sure if NIO will be vindicated in the end, or if some other company will somehow sneak in to steal its thunder.

i'm not even sure if the way they are doing it makes the most sense long-term, I actually understand very little about it and I have a financial commitment that is accordingly small to reflect that ignorance.

but it's one of the cases where I'm buying the idea because it seems like it has potential to push past all headwinds given enough time.

I genuinely like the company. When EVs first came around I wondered why there was some way to swap out the battery... Nio was the answer. Rode it to 60 and back down lol

Let's be real, no one here is buying the stock because they love the company lol (unless it's your father's company). There is only one reason and that is to make money. Anyone who says otherwise is just straight out lying and hiding the fact that they are so deep in losses that they became an involuntary long-term holder.

I bought during the time in 2019 where it was trading around 1.60 to 1.90. I’ve sold at 19 usd, 35 and 44-ish. Kept a 1.000 shares and it went over the top. Sold some more on the way down at 49. I sold the last bit cause I bought a house in autumn of 22. Since 2025 I have been buying again. I’m sitting on about 30.000 shares now. I’ve been swing trading it from time to time but I’m in it for the long run.

I live in Europe and have test driven the cars. They are very good cars, and in Europe we still have the older generation of cars. Where this started as a way to make money I’ve seen this company develop and mature. It is very interesting to see what they make and how people think about these product. In the end you aren’t investing in a company if it is not for making money. So yes, I am in here to make money. But I also enjoy this brand. They are good cars and I would like to see the gen 3 EL8 come to Europe, I might get it.

Started investing in the company since 2021(and keep buying since than) I dare to say both.

Love the company, have owned up to 10,000 shares

Still have a little of 3,000 I’ve made money but I just love the cars

Canada is allowing import of Chinese made EV. Yet no one importing NIOs. So sad.

u/veeduck 0· 7d ago

At this point I just want my money back. Luckily my AI stocks have done well since 2021. But this one still hurts

u/UniCyclones 0· 7d ago

Honestly I would love to see Chinese EVs here in the US as the competition is non-existent and the stagnation is great.

I am here because I love you NIO and a strong believer in its business model.
