Alibaba taking forever to ship sample

Investor summaryNeutral

The author complains about Alibaba.com suppliers overcharging for samples and taking weeks to ship them.

Bear points
  • Poor supplier efficiency and overcharging on the platform may degrade the buyer experience.
  • Slow shipping and unresponsive production updates could lead to customer churn.
Post body

So far 3/3 suppliers we ordered samples from charged us 200 USD for one sample of what would be an $8 item, and promised us that it will take 10-12 business days before it’s shipped. All of them took almost a month before they sent it out and one supplier keeps saying that production is still working on it and it’s been ages. Are all of them like this or are we just extremely unlucky with choosing suppliers?

What product did you buy

Yeah the salesperson was so quick to reply and get us to order the sample. She charged us so much tor it as well and now she’s taking 4 business days to respond to us.

Samples are always expensive (when located abroad) if it is your first time dealing with the factory

Yes, that's fair game.  I've already had the brand name protected for a long time.  To your initial post, I found most of the suppliers want to think inside the box and so most suppliers have drug their feet.  Wouldn't we know that I probably already knew they would want a massive shipping container size load of an order without proving themselves first.

So you have trademarks in China? Well, it is a catch 22, rough numbers but assume say 95% of Alibaba enquiries never convert, and probably 60% never re-order. So as a commission based salesperson you tend to become selective.

That's faulty training/direction on the suppliers part.  It's extremely easy to guesstimate the statistics you just brought forward

Do you think most small factories have proper training on sales? Lol
