TMO impending fraud scandal
Allegations of fraudulent antibody validation data at TMO could trigger a major scandal, prompting the author to buy puts.
- Significant portion of internal validation images in TMO's antibody catalog are alleged to be fraudulent.
- Reputable fraud detector Sholto David is leading the investigation, lending credibility to the claims.
- Potential for deeper regulatory scrutiny and reputational damage as the investigation expands.
Famous science fraud detector Sholto David who recently won a $2.6m lawsuit against Dana-Farber Cancer Institute is now cooking up something nasty against Thermo Fisher Scientific (TMO).
He and collaborators have detected that at least 10% of the “internal validation” images in TMO’s antibody catalog are completely fraudulent. That was just a quick look and now they’re digging deeper.
News has been percolating for a week and got a minor story in Nature news, but when these nerds set their sights on you there is sure to be something bigger to drop.
Position: Puts on TMO $430 7/17

Antibodies are such a small part of the massive amount of business that thermo fisher does. Also western blot fraud is so commonplace it's basically a joke in the scientific community. Thermo has too big of a moat on the reagent supply market for this to put a dent in their profits.
thermo's basically the walmart of lab supplies at this point, they could literally sell expired milk and labs would still have to buy from them 💀 fraud or not there gonna keep printing money
Are you aware how shrimp dick a $3m lawsuit is. Companies can brush that off like a comped lunch.
