US Government Targets NIO

Investor summaryBullish

Author argues US targets NIO due to its revolutionary battery swap tech, suggesting it should focus on the domestic Chinese market.

Bull points
  • Battery swap is a revolutionary and disruptive technology that major EV companies will eventually need to adopt.
  • Being targeted by the US Defense Department proves NIO's technological significance and market threat.
Bear points
  • Geopolitical tensions and US sanctions pose a significant risk to NIO's global expansion.

There are more than 60 EV companies in China and the US has specifically targeted BYD and NIO.

Xpeng has a larger global profile, exports and humanoid robots. Li Auto is a larger company. Xiaomi has both advanced EVs and phones. Geely has the impressive Zeekr brand and broad global sales. So why only NIO is targeted by the US Defense Department?

Because battery swap is a revolution, an industry disrupting concept and technology that all major EV companies will need to adopt.

We might not know specifically, who has been suppressing NIO market valuation but we now have proof that people in power have not only noticed NIO, they fear NIO.

Given the current political situation, it is wise for NIO to pull back from infrastructure expansion in all territories that are allied with the US. The best course of action is for NIO to focus on China's domestic market.

This is meaningless ! So what ? NIO doesn’t sell a single vehicle in US and has no interest whatsoever with the tariffs in place .. why is this even news . They black listed many other Chinese companies as well , including BABA. This ban applies to government contracts btw. As if US government would ever buy Chinese products (except MAGA hats , mugs and American flags 😄)

On the question of Why NIO?? Simply because it’s the best; same as Huawei and Alibaba are the best in their category and they have been banned as well !

Remember also NIO also makes own autonomous driving chips which is 4 times more powerful than Nvidia chips . We know how much US loves Chinese chips!

I think it's pretty obvious its Elon at this point. Elon that cried for years when Tesla was shorted but then became a meme stock and idiots gave him unlimited money. Tesla's sales are dropping, of course he targets Chinese EVs. Nio that had the gall to shoot up in the stock market the same time Tesla did and the stupid media repeatedly called it the Chinese Tesla at the time, of course that stung him and Nio's been on his radar since. Elon that has Trump's ear and the emotional intelligence and ego of a child, of course he nudged Nio onto this list.

I think you're correct and I think some of the other commenters are misunderstanding what is happening.

Elon tried but failed at battery swap during early TSLA days. He knew it was a great idea but couldn’t pull it off now he jealous that NIO is pulling it off!

Trump is targeting the companies that will take business from Tesla that is owned by his major donor Musk

I’m not aware of ANY parts NIO is buying from the US and its allies. Also the ban is not on “selling to China” , it’s on “buying” from China ,right?

NIO has already declared its decision not to invest further even in Europe and focus primarily in domestic market which is many times larger than US and Europe in EV demand

Oh like U.S. companies don't back the U.S. military? Just weeks ago Palantir's tech was used to bomb a school and murder over 140 innocent children killed.

Chinese consumers stop buying U.S. brands in China. Support Chinese made products and companies. Enough is enough.

NIO Inc. Responds to the U.S. Department of Defense “Chinese Military Companies” List | NIO Inc.

The US coerced the EU to ban Huawei. Some of you need to read news. It's not about selling cars in the US, it's about the US being a global superpower and completely deranged.

u/Rigaruru 4· 4d ago

Also does it matter lol?

Huawei estimated* value is 200-400 billion despite the ban.

Not accounting Europe, Asia is huge.

u/Rigaruru 2· 4d ago

Yes Nio sell 10000 car in the EU too... Oh...

Its definitely part of the future in China, and once its seen that swap stations can also be used as grid stabilizers, it will become a part of the future every where. Solid state batteries will not affect the swap business, NIO already using semi solid state batteries and will use full solid state when available.

Charge times have a cap based on Physics, and will never be as fast as swapping. Not even to mention the increased grid capacity and additional sub stations that would be needed to have mass amounts of fast chargers every where. Baas significantly reduces the price to buy an EV, under cutting ICE cars and the monthly rental plus swap costs is cheaper than using an ICE car.

China wouldnt be that obvious. They can easily just ban all self driving that doesnt use lidar.
