I Sold All My VOO for a Concentrated NVDA Bet. Should I Have Just Bought Options Instead?
Author regrets selling VOO to go all-in on NVDA due to huge tax bills and stress, wondering if buying options was better.
I sold all my VOO in early May after holding it for like 6 years and moved it all into NVDA.
Now I’m struggling with a few things:
\* The sale created about $160k in capital gains, so at some point I’ll need to sell shares to pay the taxes.
\* My portfolio is now heavily concentrated in NVDA (see screenshot).
\* I honestly haven’t felt the same since making the move. I think about it constantly. My mood basically moves with the stock.
The part that’s really messing with me is that I could’ve probably just kept VOO and done a $20k NVDA or SPY options bet instead. Less tax, less stress, and I would’ve known way faster if my thesis was right or wrong.
Instead, I’m sitting here second-guessing myself every day, waiting, stressing, and wondering if I made a huge mistake.
If you were in my shoes, how would you fix this?
