Do value investors ever feel pressure to put cash to work?

Investor summaryNeutral

A beginner value investor asks how to balance the urge to deploy cash with the need for patience in waiting for the right opportunities.

Maybe this is a beginner question.

I’ve noticed a lot of value investors talk about waiting patiently for opportunities, sometimes for years. I understand the logic, but I find it surprisingly hard to do.

If I have cash sitting there and I find a business that looks reasonably priced, it’s hard not to buy something.

How do you decide the difference between being patient and just being too picky?
