NIO VP Ma Lin has informed that the ASP for NIO vehicles has exceeded 450,000 RMB ($66,440), meaning that NIO currently has a higher ASP than BMW, Mercedes, and Audi EVs.

In China, where the average annual salary is 120,000-230,000 RMB, NIO cars are commanding a premium that previously only European car companies could command. For a domestic company, NIO's historic achievement cannot be understated.

NIO is the first Chinese EV company to successfully position itself as a commercial EV luxury brand selling at volume. NIO is far exceeding the sales of niche players and commanding much higher prices than mass market budget and mid tier priced competitors.

the premium positioning is legit, but how much of this is being driven by the Onvo launch? maintaining that luxury perception while scaling is going to be the real test.

By creating sub brands like ONVO and Firefly, NIO smartly navigated the issue of preserving luxury branding for its NIO line of cars as opposed to Xpeng and Li Auto who didn't make sub brands and are directly selling lower priced cars under their respective names.

Xpeng has watered down its brand with the Mona vehicles, and Li Auto with the discounted Li 6 vehicles.
