Is aluminium still underpriced in the infrastructure trade?
Investor summaryBullish
Aluminium is an underappreciated beneficiary of infrastructure and green energy buildouts, making 1378.HK an attractive, less crowded play.
Bull points
- Aluminium demand is structurally driven by grids, renewables, transport, and lightweight materials.
- 1378.HK benefits from scale, upstream supply exposure, and low-cost production via Yunnan's clean energy.
- Represents a less crowded infrastructure investment angle compared to copper or AI chips.
Post body
AI chips get the headlines, copper gets the macro crowd, but aluminium feels like it’s sitting quietly in the middle of the same buildout.
Grids, renewables, transport, lightweight materials: all of them need aluminium. Hongqiao is interesting here because it already has scale, upstream supply exposure, and lower-cost production capacity tied to Yunnan’s cleaner energy base.
Still, for a materials investor, I think 1378.HK is worth watching as a less crowded infrastructure angle.
