All dating apps stocks ($MTCH, $BMBL etc...) are about to drop to ZERO
AI fake profiles will ruin dating app ecosystems, making subscriptions obsolete and driving stocks like MTCH and BMBL to zero.
- AI-generated realistic photos will flood dating apps, creating an arms race that destroys platform trust.
- Men will pay third-party AI services instead of dating app subscriptions, causing an existential revenue threat.
- Once women realize the pervasiveness of fake wealth photos, the core value proposition of these apps will completely break down.
I recently started watching videos on some AI services which can help men can generate incredibly realistic AI images of themselves so that they can show themselves in locations or social situations that are indicative of their status/wealth. Like photos of themselves eating at fancy restaurants in Paris or relaxing on yachts. I am not talking about some fuckass stereotypical-looking chatgpt images. They look so completely real, I think even to zoomers who have gotten very good at picking up on AI-generated images. And of course, the tech is only improving.
This got me thinking about the chain reaction of effects that will happen when the relative amount of ease it takes to do this becomes realized among the larger public, as right now it still seems quite niche, as many people just dont realize just how convincing this crap has already become. The youtube videos I watched didnt even have that many views in spite of how effective the products they offer seem to be.
I think sometime soon, within the next 1-2 years, this will hit the mainstream. Soon, all men will be aware of just how easy it is to flaunt wealth and success that they do not actually have. Many men are largely disillusioned when it comes to online dating, so I expect lots of men will shamelessly use such AI services. Those who do use AI images will initially see great success, and those who dont will fall even further behind in the dating game. It will become like an arms race. And once too many men start doing this, the apps will just be filled with profiles using realistic AI images of high-value men. And this is how the apps completely break. Men would much rather pay some third-party company for AI images rather than using the dating apps' subscription services, which will become obsolete. That alone is an existential threat to the dating app companies. But it gets worse.
Once women catch on to just how pervasive this issue becomes, they will begin to associate all images portraying wealthy/successful men with fakes. They will not be able to distinguish actual high-status men from the fakers. This is a pretty big deal since many women are only really interested in using the apps to find high-status men, they dont care much about average or even reasonably well-looking dudes. If women cant use the apps to find actual high-value men due to the landslide of catfish, they may just give up on the apps entirely, especially since opinions on dating apps are souring right now anyways. And of course, if all the women leave, so will all the men.
I would buy puts on $MTCH or something, but i dont have the balls to do it. They're already down a lot from all time highs anyways.
But on the bright side, if I am actually right about all this, maybe it means people will go back to meeting in person rather than on the internet.
